Wedding Video Prices & Packages

Wedding Video Packages

What is on offer for your wedding video?

Following is a list of packages and prices based on figures compiled from the internet. It was hard to compile because most wedding video producers tend not to advertise their prices and a lot won't even give them out over the phone.

Sydney and Melbourne wedding video prices are usually the highest, and the further away from these 2 centres you go, the less you are likely to pay. Also, the prices should be used as a guide only. For instance some perfectly good wedding video producers charge less because they're starting out and are trying to build their portfolio. Conversely, some producers may charge more because they're using better equipment or spend longer editing.

What wedding video package should I choose?

Your Wedding Video is there to record your entire day and so should start from the bride's house as you get ready. The boys' preparation tends to be less ritualistic and so, unless the groomsmen are all going to the barber to be shaved, it is not as essential to film them getting ready. The video should then follow and document your day as it unfolds: your arrival at the ceremony, walking down the isle, the vows, signing of the register, post ceremony photo shoot, reception arrival, speeches, cake, waltz, garter & bouquet toss and then right up to when you leave the reception.

A good video also needs to flow and to do that the best, it is recommended that you have 2 cameras. This is so when the action changes from, say, the celebrant talking, to the ring going on your finger, the video changes from one camera to the other without missing any of the action or sound. Also, this is live action videography, there are no second takes. If someone stands up in front of a camera during 'the kiss' the second can cover and continue the flow.

Further to that, 2 camera operators add extra dimension to the production by working together to produce varying camera angles and follow the action more closely. Finally, authored DVD copies with motion menus and surround sound.

Wedding video deposits and cancellations?

When booking your wedding video, generally you will need to pay a deposit to secure the day. Cancellations usually incur a fee, depending on how close to the day the video is cancelled. Generally, once a day is booked every further enquiry for that day gets turned away so if the initial booking gets cancelled, the producer will have lost sales if they then can't fill the day. Remember, wedding video bookings are generally made around 9 - 12 months before the wedding.

Unfortunately, it is not unheard of for marriages to break up within a few weeks (remember Brittany Spears). Photographers & videographers don't want to be stuck with a bunch of unpaid-for prints or videos that they've spent so much time, money and effort on. So normally you are required to pay the balance prior to the wedding day.

Are wedding videos value for money?

Lastly, do not underestimate the amount of time spent and the cost of equipment used to produce your wedding video. 2 people on the day for around 11 hours, working with $20,000 - $30,000 worth of equipment. Followed up with around 30 - 40 hours post production on equipment worth only-who-knows-what.

So you're looking at around 60 man-hours to produce a decent 2 camera wedding video using tens of thousands of dollars worth of equipment. Imagine how much it would cost to hire the cars and drivers for 60 hours!!!. What I am really trying to say is that in Australia, the wedding video producer is extremely undervalued. US prices are more realistic and are about double that of Australia.

Wedding Video Pricing Guide

This list was compiled using information gathered from Australian Internet sites March 2004. They show the lowest and highest prices as advertised for the package that matches the listed package the closest.

As mentioned earlier, most wedding video producers do not give out their prices and so this list should be used as a rough, ball-park-figure guide.

This list is by no means exhaustive and we are not responsible for any errors or omissions.
